Our Philosophy

Welcome to philosophy (the love of wisdom). Welcome in particular, to the philosophy of chiropractic. It is a philosophy that considers the nature of existence, of human beings and of their interaction with our environment.

At the New Zealand College of Chiropractic we recognise the expression of an inborn organising intelligence in the human body. This inborn (innate) intelligence animates, heals and coordinates you and all of your life processes. This vitalistic philosophy helps to understand the mind - body connection.

Vitalism developed in the 17th and 18th centuries in contrast to the then growing thoughts of a 'machine-like' (Newtonian) view of life. The natural philosophers of that day embraced the notion that whatever the material nature, there had to be some kind of 'vital force' animating living substances.

Today, cutting edge science still continues to offer new ways of exploring the phenomenon of life and the concept of an inborn organising wisdom. In fact, this science is considered 'ahead of its time.'

The philosophy of chiropractic focuses on the body's inborn potential to maintain and restore its own health. The body constantly adapts to internal and external environmental changes thus allowing it to survive and thrive. The nerve system (the brain and the spinal cord) either directly or indirectly coordinates all the information being transmitted from the brain to the tissues of the body. It also integrates all external environmental changes coming to the brain from the outside.

This information integration ensures the function of the body, from the complexity of interrelated body systems to individual cellular functions. Any interference with the nerve system impairs normal function and lowers resistance to disease. Chiropractic helps the body function at its full potential.

So join us in this life changing endeavor.
