NZ CHIROPRACTIC RESEARCHER WINS TOP RESEARCH AWARD

New Zealand researchers are at the forefront of chiropractic research and recently presented studies at the world’s largest chiropractic scientific conference. The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) Congress is held every two years and draws together the top chiropractic researchers from around the world.

At the 2011 congress, held in Rio de Janeiro in April, Dr Heidi Haavik, Director of Research at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, won the Research poster award for the Pacific Region for her paper entitled “An Approach using Fast Rate Stimulation to investigate changes in Cerebellar Processing”. Dr Haavik also won the same award at the previous WFC Congress held in 2009.

Assistant Director of Research at the College, Dr Kelly Holt, presented one paper at the Congress entitled “The Effects of Manual Therapy on Balance and Falls: A Systematic Review”. Dr. Holt is in the second year of his PhD studies.

Dr. Haavik has spoken at a number of conferences in 2011. These include ‘Dynamic Growth’ in Brisbane, the Chiropractic Association of Australia (CAA) Seminar in Melbourne, and the ‘Subluxation and Vitalism Conference’ held at the Octagon at Life University in the USA. She is also the keynote speaker at the CAA National Development Forum in Cairns in October.
