The NZCC Centennial Library offers orientation and information skills classes, sessions and one-to-one tutorials for both staff and students. Check times on the noticeboard.

1. MAKE THE LIBRARY WORK FOR YOU
Duration: 15 -20 mins
Location: Library
Introduction to the library collections & facilities; what’s in the Library; where to find the most useful resources for your course; using the photocopier!
2. ONLINE CATALOGUE SEARCHING & LIBRARY WEBSITE
Duration: 15 - 20 mins
Location: Library. 5 people maximum
How to use the library website and catalogue; find out what you can use from our library collection; access your borrower record to renew your own library books; make requests.
3. RESEARCH FOR BEGINNERS
Duration: 30 mins
Location: Library
- Info Needs: brainstorming, key questions, key words
- Finding Information: catalogue, the web, journals, databases, statistics, government sources
- Selecting Information: what’s good and what’s not, and why
- Using Information: referencing, copyright and plagiaris
- An introduction to research and resource-learning activities is included
4. INDIVIDUAL OR SMALL-GROUP SESSIONS
Finding information for specific assignments
Pathfinder-type sessions to locate specific resources
- Research from the web: Google Plus
Includes tips on searching & evaluating websites - best of the web.
- Journals, reference sources and statistics
Introduction to quality reference sources for your course. Including academic journals, when is an article a good article, online encyclopaedias and dictionaries.
- Database research
Learn to find articles on your topic using a specified database – e.g. how best to use Index to Chiropractic, ScienceDirect, PubMed and others.
- Referencing workshops
Practice referencing books, journal articles, online articles & websites.
