Why now?A recent surge of case reports in peer reviewed journals has sparked a huge interest in Upper Cervical Specific techniques. For New Zealand and Australia based chiropractors the Symposium is an unrivalled opportunity to learn what Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic is all about.
Expert knowledge at your fingertips“You don’t have to be exclusively Upper Cervical to practice Upper Cervical Specific Techniques.”- Dr Graham Dobson, Director, Technique Department, NZ College of Chiropractic
UC Specific is often practiced exclusively (without adjusting below axis) but did you know UC Specific procedures can also be successfully incorporated within a full spine model of practice? This is your chance to hear more.
Benefits of Upper Cervical care“Because the upper cervical spine protects the brainstem and is structurally and functionally different to other spinal regions why would you NOT want to be super knowledgeable and super specific when analysing and adjusting that region for your patients?”- Graham Dobson DC, Director, Technique Department, NZ College of Chiropractic
Upper Cervical care is brainstem care. The focus is on correcting UC vertebral subluxation. Correction of these subluxations addresses interference to coordinated function throughout the body and allows the body a better chance of self healing. Upper Cervical care is dedicated to locating a common cause of interference: head - neck misalignment.
Many journal articles also report improvements in neurological disorders following UC care, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinsonism, trigeminal neuralgia and Meniere’s disease.
There are many Upper Cervical specific techniques but they all have the following in common:
- Very specific radiographic procedures.
- High velocity, very low amplitude adjustments that are made with the head stabilised. Examples are Toggle Recoil (Palmer), Toggle Torque (Blair) and instrument techniques such as Atlas Orthogonal which utilises sound waves.
- A critical thinking process that involves pattern analysis and results in very few adjustments needing to be made. The standard rule is “when in doubt do not adjust”.
