Bachelor of Chiropractic Entry Requirements
The Bachelor of Chiropractic (B-Chiro) is five years of study. Four years are completed at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, and one preliminary year of basic science study must be completed prior to this. Sometimes called your ‘pre chiropractic’ year, this is a mandatory requirement to be accepted onto the B-Chiro. The New Zealand College of Chiropractic does not offer this preliminary year of study.
You can complete the basic science papers that you need at any university in the world. They are usually covered in the first year of a General Science, Health Science or Exercise and Sport Science degree. If you have a first degree in Science you may also have covered the papers we ask for.
These are the science papers you must have completed at first year university level (level 5). (Please note that credit descriptors only apply to New Zealand):

Do I meet the entry requirements? If you aren’t sure whether you meet the entry requirements – for example if you have a first degree in a science related subject such as psychology – you need to apply to the College. Your application should include academic transcripts and course descriptors of what you’ve actually studied. Once we have this, our Admissions department will carefully look at you studies to date to assess whether you meet our requirements.
International StudentsAll international candidates must submit an application before we are able to check your eligibility for the B-Chiro. To help you decide whether your studies to date meet our requirements please check our table of learning outcomes. This explains what you should have covered for each paper we ask for.
For more information about applying from overseas, please see the International Students page.
English Language AbilityYou must have good English language skills to enrol at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. If English is your second language you will need to show proof of your English level. Our preferred English language test is the IELTS academic module. You need to achieve an overall IELTS band score of 7.0 with no individual band less than 6.5.
Where can I complete my pre chiropractic studies? You can complete the pre-requisite papers that we ask for at any university in the world. Find out which degree programmes qualify for direct entry; see suggestions for where you can study the papers you need; and discover how you can transfer credits to the Bachelor of Chiropractic on the Pre Chiropactic Studies page.
